The British Consulate-General in Guangzhou represents the United Kingdom across southern China. Our main role includes: developing trade and investment opportunities between the UK and China; and promoting bilateral co-operation between the British government and the provincial governments of southern China on issues such as climate change, tackling international crime, and education. We are also committed to providing the highest quality service to British Citizens in China and to Chinese nationals wishing to visit, study and do business in the UK.
We looking for British nationals or spouse of Diplomats in possession of valid W or Z visa to fill the positions in Visa Section as follows
LEIII (E) Visa Writer
Contract duration: Permanent
? To check computer records to ensure complete accuracy prior to visa printing
? Issuing official United Kingdom Visas
? To liase clearly and effectively with colleagues and management upon identifying any problems
? To maintain the security of the Visa Writing office
? To follow the correct procedures relating to the issuance/revocation/cancellation of UK and other territories visas
? To assist in other areas of the Visa Section where necessary
? Other administrative duties, as required
? Excellent standard of English
? Strong IT skills, knowledge of MS Office applications
? A typing speed of at least 30 wpm
? Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
? Strong organisational and communication skills
? Enthusiasm, confidence and the ability to work under pressure
? Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change
? Possess the ability to work in ‘closed-door’ environment
? Subject to suitable security clearance to restricted (will take at least one month)
We offer a competitive salary package starting at RMB 13,001.00 per month before all deduction of tax and 20 day annual leave entitlement
Temporary LE II (E) Entry Clearance Officer
Contract duration: 5 months
? To take a considered and pragmatic decision on applications, abiding by the United Kingdom Immigration Rules, current legislation and guidance
? To undertake a paper-based assessment of applications and identify those who qualify for visas and issue without delay, with strict adherence to procedures
? To prepare promptly clear and correct refusal notices for those who are refused entry clearance
? To undertake specific project work and lead teams on out of office business
? To undertake representational duties, including public speaking
? To review decisions fully and objectively where appeal notices have been received. If appropriate, to prepare and compose explanatory statements within target times for the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (AIT) in the United Kingdom
? To ensure that correspondence is quickly, professionally and accurately dealt with. To deal with enquiries from the public on a range of entry clearance matters

? An excellent level of reading/writing/speaking English

? Previous experience in Immigration work relating to the United Kingdom or other countries with similar systems
? Staff management experience
? The successful candidate is required to undergo a security clearance procedure. Such clearance may take time to arrange. If security clearance cannot be obtained, the candidate will not be able to take the position and the offer of employment will be withdrawn. The exact date of commencement will depend on the time taken for security clearance.
? The successful applicant may be required to attend a 3-week training course in the United Kingdom (dates tbc), at which they must obtain a pass grade. The successful candidate must, if required, be available to undertake this training.
? The successful applicant may be required to undertake short periods away from Guangzhou on immigration related trips.
? The Visa Section is undergoing a period of rapid change, and the successful candidate will be expected to adapt and be responsive to this.
We offer a competitive salary package starting at RMB 16,435.00 per month before all deduction of tax .
The candidates must be free to work throughout the period of the contract.
This is a short-term position only. Applicants who already hold a permanent position within the British Consulate General are welcome to apply. However if successful, we cannot guarantee that your permanent position will remain open
The successful candidate will be employed under locally employed staff conditions within the British Consulate General in Guangzhou.
These are full time positions. We may have some flexibility to employ two part time positions (based on job share) if they can bring an outstanding portfolio of experience to the role.
